Happy is the man whose lot it is to know the secrets of the earth. He hastens not to work his fellows hurt by unjust deeds but with rapt admiration contemplates Immortal Nature's ageless harmony and how and when her order came to be.

It was with great sadness that we suddenly suffered the death of Jack Slater, long standing member and Secretary of Oldham Microscopical Society in late May of this year.  Jack was heavily involved in the Oldham district in all things 'Natural History' but was particularly expert in plant life, especially trees, in propogation and horticulture in general. He leaves a great hole in many of the organisations in the area. Trying to cope with this loss is one reason that the website has not been updated for some time.  Jack was 83 years old.
